How to Go to Get Recognized by the Student Academy: Narrative Edition
The recipe for a perfect narrative story has been long sought after in the student film universe. But look no further! Here’s what you need to get that winning reel in the can:
- A child - preferably one that’s being neglected, and preferably a girl. Audiences sympathize more with little girls, especially if the dad’s a jerk, because little girls are alone in the world. Little boys can pull themselves up by their own bootstraps and tip their trilbies to get a raise at Barclay’s.
- A foreign language - it’s hard for us to judge acting skills if we have to read. So be sure to set every story you can in another culture - it’ll give your film a different look, show how much money you have, and make the entertainment world look more diverse, while having the actual crew remain homogenous.
- Stilted emotions - there’s nothing better than watching people who don’t know what to think think. That blustery silent stare means everything, Jacques. And ignore your wife when you walk out the door — yeah, that’s it. Right there.
